A+D Museum's CELEBRATE Gala

In 2010, the A+D Architecture and Design Museum hosted CELEBRATE 2010, a grand opening exhibit and inaugural fundraising event. That year, along with other renowned architects, designers, and community leaders, we were invited to create an innovative work to be auctioned and exhibited at the museum. Given an identical kit of parts, each invitee was tasked with making a one-of-a-kind sculpture showcasing the vision of each firm or artist.

Casa California Showcase Home

Together with California Homes magazine and the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, we directed and participated in developing a showcase house called "Casa California," with proceeds benefitting under-privileged children in Orange County. Completed in 2008, along with many of California's top designers, we were charged with designing awe-inspiring spaces in this Shady Canyon home. Our task - the cinematic and theatrical Lounge and Powder Room.

DIFFA - Dining by Design

In 2013, we participated in DIFFA's 16th annual Dining By Design event, an exceptional five-day design event in New York to raise money for DIFFA's grant-making efforts. DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS raises awareness and grants funds to organizations that provide treatment, direct care services, preventative education programs and advocacy for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS. Their Dining By Design event brings top architects, interior designers, fashion designers, landscape artists, etc. together to design one-of-a-kind dining room and tabletop installations for exhibition.

Our team was at the Divine Design charity fundraiser this weekend to help Project Angel Food, where we donated this Hurrell silver tray table. @ProjAngelFood delivers meals and nutritional counseling to anyone with a life threatening condition. What an incredible cause!

LA Art Show 2014

(December 9, 13—Los Angeles) The LA Art Show is pleased to welcome celebrated interior designer James Magni as the 2014 VIP Lounge Designer. The VIP lounge, a haven for collectors, and art professionals is re-designed each year to showcase a contemporary interpretation of the marriage of art and design. In keeping with Magni’s signature modernist approach, the interior designer and author of Magni Modernism, will transform the exclusive lounge space into a sleek and sophisticated retreat for high-end collectors and celebrities. The VIP Lounge will be open during show hours from January 15 – 19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall.

James Magni’s modern space will feature a rich grey color palette on the walls, carpeting and leather and fabric upholstery. This impactful palette will be highlighted by hints of natural bronze, polished stainless steel and white gold leafing on furniture, mirrors and lighting from the Magni Home Collection. The luxurious fabrics are from Romo, with drapery from Ilona Drapery and floral arrangements from Eric Buterbaugh. The VIP Lounge will also feature James Magni’s selection of prominent works of contemporary art from several galleries exhibiting at the show.

Magni Kalman is proud to be part of the LCDQ - LEGENDS 2016 WINDOW DESIGNERS. The LCDQ is where Main Street USA meets Design in LA. It is a community of store front design resources with a sense of community... a community that fosters cooperation, education, inspiration and the promotion of style. LCDQ's annual Legends event is an opportunity to showcase the talent of some of our community's leading designers in LCDQ member windows. Since 2012, the LCDQ Legends event has raised money to support Habitat for Humanity Los Angeles.

Designer Doll House Initiative

As part of the UCLA Mattel Kaleidoscope Ball in April 2013, we were asked to contribute in the design and build of a one-of-a-kind fantasy doll house to be auctioned off for charity. In collaboration with other top designers and architects, this event benefitted the Mattel Children's Hospital and the UCLA Children's Discovery Center and Innovation Institute. Utilizing the theme of "Magni Modernism" to coincide with the release of our monograph, we mixed contemporary, Art Deco and Asian custom-made furnishings - creating a miniaturized version of a classic Magni contemporary villa.
